DeLay Bows to Reality

Realizing that his days as the most powerful man on Capitol Hill are behind him, Tom DeLay has announced that he will not seek to regain his old position as Majority Leader. There could be a very interesting battle between, the current acting Majority Leader, Roy Blunt, and John Boehner, who has been openly lusting at the job for about 10 years now. But I am sure that there will also be a wild card, certainly a true outsider Conservative or possibly even a pragmatic moderate who could run on his ability to appeal to some Democrats. (Nah, the latter option won't happen.)

But it this will serve as the opening salvo in the battle for the "heart and soul" of the GOP that will continue through the 2008 election. One interesting question is whether Junior gets involved, and if he does, how much weight he still has.
